Avast! Me hearties and ye scurvy dogs – today be a day to hoist the colors… Its International Talk Like A Pirate Day, so to celebrate we be givin’ ye pirate travel ideas so ye can be yer own buccaneer!

Yar! Some of us be dressed up like sea scoundrels!

Mike, ye be a scurvy dog or a bilge rat?

We be celebrating here in Sydney with a few bottles of rum, Argh! If ye be interested in bein a pirate for a day, here be some pirate travel ideas from around the globe, so yar don’ be a wench or a blige rat!

  1. Take the Pirates Tour, a pirate walking tour around the dockside of Key West, Florida, USA.
  2. Captain Budd, Christobal Colon, and Pirate Scrimshaw Artist can take you on a pirate walking tour where you can ‘hear the untold stories of lost treasure ships, as history is re-told, through the eyes of the freedom loving pirates.’ They cater for families during the day, and also have a pirate pub crawl at night.

  3. Take the Pirates of the Bay tour, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
  4. Join in either a day or night tour on board a pirate ship as it sails off the coast of Puerto Vallarta. Depending on what tour you go on, according to the website, you can have a pirate meal, participate in pirate activities, and either swim in the reef, watch the fireworks, or dress up as a pirate for the day.

  5. Visit Blackbeard’s Castle US Virgin Islands.
  6. This family friendly tourist destination in the Carribean has ‘pirate hideouts, historic manor houses, botanical gardens, archaeological sites, sparkling pools, waterfalls, museums’.

  7. Visit the Golden Hind, Brixham, Devon, UK.
  8. Sir Francis Drake sailed this mighty vessel around the world from 1577 to 1580. Now you can visit the vessel and learn a thing or two about the voyage.

    For those of you in London, there is a replica of the ship at St Mary Overie Dock.

  9. Go see the Pittsburgh Pirates play at the PNC Baseball Field, Pittsburgh.
  10. The Pirates have been pretty ordinary for the last 15 years or so, but you can throw your support behind them tonight as they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Anyone who considers themself a true swashbuckler should be supporting the ‘Bucs’ tonight.

  11. Dress up and drink rum at your hostel or look to see if any local watering holes are celebrating the occasion.
  12. Go to ‘Aye-land’ (Ireland)  Bad joke???

    By the Grace-O’Malley of God, that kinda works, especially as one looks at the number of Brethren of the Coast that had Irish roots. Anything involving O’Malley in and near County Mayo would probably qualify as a pirate site to visit, and with a little research most any place in Eire near Galway or Dublin could be found to have a few buccaneers associated with it.
